Sino-Italy Innovative Design Center and Tsinghua University Milan Art and Design Institute officially opened in Milan
On the afternoon of April 17, 2018, local time, the “China-Italy Innovative Design Center” jointly established by Tsinghua University and Milan Polytechnic University and the opening of the Art Design Institute of Tsinghua University in Milan were held in Milan. This is the first education and research base set up by Tsinghua University in Europe, marking an important step in the global strategy of Tsinghua University.

Song Xuefeng, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Milan, Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan, Ferruccio Nesta, President of the Polytechnic of Milan, and Giuliano Nozie, Vice President, "father of Italian postmodernist design" Alessandro Mendini, a famous contemporary Italian designer, architect and design critic, and Han Jingyang, deputy director of the Tsinghua University School Committee, attended the ceremony. Chen Xu said in her speech that in February last year, under the joint witness of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Italian President Matarella, Tsinghua University and Milan Polytechnic University signed a cooperation agreement in Beijing to jointly establish a Sino-Italian design and innovation base. In November last year, the launch of the Sino-Italian Design Innovation Base and the unveiling ceremony of the Art Design Institute of Tsinghua University were held in TusPark. Today, just five months later, in Milan, the Sino-Italy Innovative Design Center was officially launched, and the Sino-Italy Design Exhibition was held. The Tsinghua University Milan Art and Design Institute was also unveiled. This means that the cultural exchanges between the two countries will be further deepened, and the educational and scientific cooperation between the two universities in the design field will be further deepened. It also represents the vital step in the global strategy of Tsinghua University after the Global Innovation Institute in Seattle. An other big step of the idea of “more innovative, more international, and more humane” for Tsinghua.
