GIX Started up in Seattle, and Tsinghua Suite Opened
On the morning of September 14 local time, the ceremony of completion and use of the first teaching and research building and the opening of Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) was held in Seattle, the United States, indicating the accelerated implementation of the global strategy of Tsinghua University.
QIU Yong, President of Tsinghua University, Ana Mari Cauce, President of University of Washington, LUO Linquan, Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, Jay Inslee, Governor of State of Washington, Gary Locke, former Governor of State of Washington and former US Ambassador to China, Christine Gregoire, former Governor of State of Washington, Steven Ballmer, former CEO of Microsoft, Brad Smith, President of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, and about 200 guests from universities, government, enterprises and institutions and 44 students of GIX jointly witnessed this exciting moment. Vikram Jandhyala, Vice President of University of Washington, and YANG Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, jointly chaired the ceremony.
A special space called Tsinghua Suite is built in GIX Building. QIU Yong, President of Tsinghua University, Ana Mari Cauce, President of University of Washington, LUO Linquan, Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, Jay Inslee, Governor of State of Washington, and Brad Smith, President of Microsoft, jointly unveiled Tsinghua Suite. This suite is full of Tsinghua’s characteristics, and a sundial model of the same size as that in Tsinghua University is placed in front of the wall decorated with photo of Tsinghua Auditorium, providing visitors with the feeling of standing on the campus of Tsinghua University.
GIX, jointly founded by Tsinghua University, University of Washington and Microsoft in 2015, is the first comprehensive education and research platform set up by a Chinese university in the US. It not only builds a bridge of exchange between China and the US and between the east and the west, but also promotes the educational innovation in the field of technological innovation and provides talent supports for the scientific and technological progress and development of human being.
YUAN Wei, President of TusHoldings, ZHANG Jinsheng, Vice President of TusHoldings and Chairman of TusStar, AN Hongping, Vice President of TusHoldings and Executive President of TusCity Group, and ZHAO Qing, Senior Vice President of TusHoldings and President of Tus-New Material Group, attended the ceremony. TusCity Group provided supports for the construction of Tsinghua Suite.
